Woking fell to another defeat on the road as they were beaten 2-0 by Eastleigh.

Goals from Jack Payne and Tyrone Barnett in the first half were enough to see off the visitors who have now lost six away league games in a row.

The Cards came into the match off a very mixed week after beating Yeovil the Saturday prior but looking to avenge the loss away at Ebbsfleet on Tuesday night.

The sun was shining at the Silverlake stadium as Woking made only one change from Tuesday, Jamar Loza coming back into the team after suspension at the expense of Alex Wall.

The question of whether or not the pitch was playable was answered when the referee passed the pitch inspection earlier in the morning. However, issues with the pitch were clear to see.

Although it was not the start Woking were looking for as the Spitfires began to control the early stages and were knocking the ball around nicely.

The 152 Woking fans were making lots of noise as always tucked away in the corner.

The pressure was beginning to tell as Eastleigh were racking up the corners with Woking so far doing their job.

However, on 10 minutes Eastleigh were rewarded for their pressure. Woking switch off as Eastleigh switch the play with a cross field ball to the back post and there is midfielder Jack Payne totally unmarked who fires back across Craig Ross into the corner. 1-0 Eastleigh!

Manny Parry had the Cards first chance with two snapshots from a Woking corner with the second being smartly saved.

Although Eastleigh were always dangerous and Danny Hollands was played in but the ref adjudged him to have fouled Moussa Diarra.

But on 20 minutes the Cards were punished again for their slow start as the home side made it 2-0. An Eastleigh corner which found Tyrone Barnett completely unmarked in the six-yard box, and his free header arrowed past Ross - 2-0 Eastleigh and another horrible goal for Woking to concede.

Woking continued to look dangerous from set pieces; Josh Casey’s in-swinging corner was scrambled away by the home keeper Max Stryjek.

The second half started a lot brighter for the Cards with an instant attack that saw Josh Neufville break down the right and put in a dangerous cross which Jake Hyde just couldn’t get proper connection with; better from Woking.

Woking continued to come forward and this time it was Loza down the left, breezing past his man before cutting the ball back across the box to Neufville but his shot was comfortably.

In the 58th minute Woking looked to keep up the intensity with a double sub, Alex Wall and Max Kretzschmar replacing Jake Hyde and Jayden Harris.

Then came the best chance for Woking. A slick counter attack with Loza picking up the ball at speed, running past blue shirts before being one on one but as he went to shoot the ball hit a bobble and just went wide. So unlucky!

Eastleigh then managed to get more of a foothold and were becoming very difficult to break down.

Dave Tarpey replaced Godfrey Poku in the 72nd minute.

It wasn’t over just yet for the Cards with a couple more chances coming their way.

Max Kretzschmar (pictured above) saw his header go just over and Dave Tarpey had the ball fall to him but his shot was high and not very handsome.

Scott Rendell came on for Eastleigh to a chorus of boos and chants from the Woking fans and his only shot was comfortably saved by Ross.

The two early goals did it for Woking who will rue their slow start and sloppy defending. It was a much better second half performance from which to take some positives, but the damage was already done.

The result leaves Woking in 10th three points of the play-offs; the win for Eastleigh sees them in 16th.

Next up for the Cards is Notts County away on the 15th February.
