Christian Jolley

A former Woking midfielder, Christian transitioned into a coaching role in the summer of 2019, after his playing career was brought to a premature end by injury. He originally joined the Cards twelve months earlier, following manager Alan Dowson and fellow coaches Ian Dyer and Martin Tyler from former club Hampton and Richmond Borough, where together they had enjoyed successive play-off campaigns in National League South.

Despite being predominately a striker or winger in his early career, Jolley looked set to establish himself as Woking’s midfield general, using his vast experience and understanding of the game to act as one of the manager’s on field lieutenants. Unfortunately, a pre-season injury suffered against Salford City massively restricted his time on the pitch. After playing through the pain barrier for the first two and a half league games, all of which Woking won, he wouldn’t return until early December. He remained a regular member of the team until February, including all 90 minutes against Premier League Watford in the FA Cup, before ongoing injury problems saw him slowly phased out – his final appearance coming against Welling United in March, a game which he marked with his only league goal for the club.

Even with his problems on the pitch, Jolley remained a constant in the Woking dressing room and on the sidelines, as he played a key role in helping the team win promotion back to the National League at the first attempt. His impact was quickly noted by Dowse who moved to keep him on in a new capacity for the 2019/20 season.
