9. Jake Hyde

The powerful centre forward signed a new contract with Woking in the summer of 2019 after finishing the previous campaign as the club’s joint leading goalscorer in all competitions.

Jake first joined the Cards twelve months earlier from Maidenhead United and quickly impressed supporters with his strength and tenacity up front, as well as his finishing ability, as goals in each of his first two home appearances in the comeback wins over St Albans City and Oxford City got his tally up and running. The goals continued to flow as he netted a brace against Kemptson Rovers at the start of the Cards’ memorable FA Cup run, as well as two more against Hungerford Town, as the team began to mount a promotion charge. His most memorable goals were still to come however, as he netted the only goal of the game in a shock 1-0 away win over Football League side Swindon Town to setup a third round FA Cup meeting with Premier League Watford, before his 15th and final goal of the season came against Wealdstone in the National League South play-off semi-final, completing the comeback as the team came from two goals down to win 3-2.

His football career begun, somewhat ironically, at Swindon, but after two loan spells in the National League with Weymouth, he left without making a first-team appearance. He joined Barnet where he received regular first-team action for the first time, scoring seven times in all competitions in his debut season, and helping the Bees steer clear of relegation from the Football League. He spent the next two years in Scotland playing for Dunfermline Athletic and later Dundee, both in the Scottish First Division, whilst also having a short spell back in the National League with Hayes and Yeading United. In 2012 he returned to Barnet where he scored an impressive 26 goals across two seasons, finishing as the club’s top goalscorer on both occasions, before moving to York City where, once again, he finished top of the scoring charts with 10 in all competitions. Injuries disrupted his progress over the next two seasons and, after a brief stint at Stevenage, he moved to Maidenhead in 2017, scoring seven times in all competitions in his single campaign with the club before joining up with Alan Dowson at the Laithwaite Community Stadium.
