WOKING 0 CRAWLEY TOWN 0

26 December 2008

The Cards, reduced to ten men just before half-time, battled to earn a point this afternoon against high-flying Crawley Town.

Joel Ledgister went close early on, diving to put a glancing header wide, but it was a game of few chances, with neither side really testing the opposing keeper. Shortly before half-time Gez Sole was sent off by a whistle-happy referee for what looked like a pretty innocuous version of a two-footed tackle. A yellow card would have been more than sufficient.

With Quamina on for Marum, the Cards defended efficiently in the second half and nearly won the game near the end. Crawley too were reduced to ten men with a few minutes to go, the referee producing a red card even though the defender who brought down Matt Pattison was clearly not the last man. Ledgister then struck a superb volley, which the Red Devils? keeper did brilliantly to tip onto the bar.

A disappointing crowd of fewer than 2,000 filed out of a cold Kingfield to hear the news that Woking?s point was not enough to prevent them slipping into the bottom four again.

A full report by Chris Hunter will follow.
