Graham: news of tonight's reserve game

I spoke to Graham earlier this morning for some news about the line-up for tonight’s reserve game at home to Godalming Town (7.30pm kick-off).

Graham plans to play a mix of the more senior Academy lads, some of the players on the bench on Monday and a couple of trialists. One of the trialists will be Ben Akwuegbu, the former Nigerian World Cup player who scored two goals in the reserves’ 4-0 win on Saturday.

Graham says that he’s checking out Ben because he offers, potentially, a different set of attributes from his existing forwards. He’s older (mid 30’s), is experienced, is a ‘hold the ball up target man’ and scores most of his goals in the six-yard area (“finding space in a crowded penalty area is an art). Ben has played most of his football away from his home country and has recently moved to London. Graham has got a DVD focusing on Ben’s career but wasn’t able to see him on Saturday, so tonight is an opportunity to see him in a competitive game.

The weather forecast isn’t great for this evening but Graham thought that the match wouldn’t be in doubt: the pitch is in very good condition and there’s no first team home game on Saturday to worry about. But if anyone wants to check later, please ring the Club.

Admission is £4 for adults and £2 for OAPs/children/season ticket holders.
