Good wishes from Hythe Town

Brian Caffarey - 1st October 2009

Good wishes from Hythe Town We’ve received the message below from Martin Giles, Director and Football Secretary at Hythe Town. In response, we have of course thanked Hythe for their hospitality, expressed our admiration for their fine performances in both legs of the cup tie and wished them well in their challenge for the Kent Premier League title.

“Just like to say that we enjoyed most of our time at Kingfield on Tuesday and all of the staff and officials were very welcoming and a credit to the Club. I think we struggled to cope with your lads’ touch and speed on a lovely surface, although we were surprised to see it had been "raining" quite as much as it had--was there ever a case of two such extremes on Sat/Tues--and neither very natural!!!

When we first heard the draw there was a collective gulp, but I think we handled the first tie OK on and off the pitch. Your stadium and organisation is impressive, and although we have ambitions we will never get to where you are now as our little Town would not support such a climb. As you had promised, though, your supporters were a good bunch at Hythe (apparently, some arrived with a bad thirst) and we never needed our stewards but weren't to know that.

Apparently, a few of our locals were a little free with their language on Saturday, so sorry for any offence but many of them we only see when a big game is on. Likewise, one or two remarks on your forum [Card Board] were a little harsh and, considering the three division gap, unrealistic. At our level we are very organised and our players are reasonably well compensated for the considerable time and efforts they give to the club. We have a fully-qualified physio and a strict training regime as well as a professional Board and good sponsors--we are no pub team and it's not our fault you were in the 2nd Qualifying Round!!

We wiil look out for your results now for the rest of the season, so ‘Good Luck, success and get back in that top division!’”
