Weymouth Preview

Woking v Weymouth
3pm on Saturday 24 April 2010

The Cards take on relegated Weymouth on Saturday knowing that, in order to secure a play-off place, they must beat the Terras but also that either Bath City or (more conceivably) Braintree must lose as well. Make your way to Kingfield to cheer on Graham Baker’s side in this exciting end to the season!

WOKING

The race for the two remaining play-off places is now down to three sides in practice: Woking, Bath City and Braintree Town. Braintree Town are at home to champions Newport County, while Bath City entertain St Albans City. Both Braintree and Bath need only a draw to ensure that they finish above Woking. However, defeat for either would see Woking claim a play-off place provided that the Cards defeated Weymouth. The Cards’ best hopes seem to lie with Newport County but how much incentive there is for the Exiles to go all out against Braintree must be open to question.

Barring any new injuries, it seems likely that Graham Baker will start with the side that lined up at St Albans last Saturday, although he must be tempted to find a starting berth for on-loan Palace striker Matthew Wright, who has done well in his recent substitute appearances.

WEYMOUTH

The Terras may be relegated already but they haven’t given up the ghost in the BSS – witness their 1-0 home win over Hampton and Richmond Borough last Saturday. And they’ve been boosted by the news that former Manager Ian Hutchinson will be returning to the Wessex Stadium to take over again from the start of next season.

Weymouth’s recent results have been:

23 Mar Welling United 7 Weymouth 1
27 Mar Weymouth 0 Thurrock 0
3 Apr Weymouth 1 Weston-s-Mare 2
5 Apr Havant and W 3 Weymouth 1
10 Apr Dover Athletic 2 Weymouth 0
17 Apr Weymouth 1 Hampton and RB 0

The Terras have been fielding a predominantly young side but have one or two familiar names in their squad, including ex-Card Stephen Reed, former Grays and Crawley striker, Pierre-Joseph Dubois and defender Martin Slocombe.
