Reserves notch up another win

Reserves notch up another win Woking 1 Tonbridge Angels 0
Suburban Football League Premier Division
Saturday 4th September 2010

The Woking youngsters took the game to Tonbridge Angels right from the start - Sean Bradley hitting the post with just three minutes gone, he followed up just minutes later with two further efforts that went close; Jack Blatchford curled a shot just wide after 18 minutes whilst Ollie Palmer had a well struck effort deflected wide with just 23 minutes gone.

It was looking like one of those days when the ball would not find the net until with just 15 minutes remaining of the half Ollie Palmer crossed the ball into the box from the right to find the marauding Josh Watkins who drilled the ball hard and low into the Tonbridge net.

With no further score Woking came in at half time 1-0 up.

Tonbridge started the second period the brighter and with just three minutes gone the Woking Reserves debutant in goal Jordan Kennedy was called upon to make a terrific save low to his left a feat he repeated after an almost replica attempt with 17 minutes gone.

Things took a turn for the worse midway through the second half as Gavin Miller picked up a second yellow and was dismissed, thereafter it was backs to the wall as Tonbridge tried every way they could to take advantage of the extra man.

In an exciting and nail biting remaining 20 minutes a tired but resolute and robust Woking side held out to take the points and move into second place in the Suburban Premier table.

Gavin Miller would most likely have picked up the MOTM award had he stayed on the pitch but in the end this game was won as a result of a left back getting into the Tonbridge box and scoring the single goal coupled with a two high quality saves from a young debutant goalkeeper therefore the joint Man of the match award goes to Josh Watkins and Jordan Kennedy.

MOTM: Josh Watkins and Jordan Kennedy.

Squad: Jordan Kennedy, Callum Eagle, Gavin Miller, Aaron Gough, Josh Watkins, Matt Powell, Tom Topham, Jack Blatchford, Sean Bradley, Anson Cousins, Ollie Palmer.

Subs used: Josh Griffiths, Jon Coussens.

Subs not used: Alfred Ajani, Jason Cardona, Tim Taylor.
