Glenn Hoddle was at Kingfield to watch over his Academy team as they took on a Woking side made up of a mixture of first team, reserve and Academy players.

Glenn explained that he had decided to try and help young players who have been rejected by League clubs and, where possible, to restart their football careers. His Academy is supported financially by investors who also retain part of any fee that is paid when players are signed by clubs. For its first three years the Glenn Hoddle Academy was based in Spain. It’s currently located here in the UK.

This friendly fixture proved to be a free-flowing game with a marked absence of heavy tackles. The game started slowly with the visitors having the majority of the early play and they consolidated this position by going ahead in the fifteenth minute with an easy tap-in.

On twenty minutes a Woking free-kick from wide right by Derek Duncan crashed against the bar with the keeper beaten. Shortly afterwards Elvis Hammond went close with a firm shot.

The second goal for the Academy saw George Thomson given time and space to hit a swerving shot from twenty-five yards past Aaron Howe.

Gez Sole headed just wide from a Jay Davies cross, before Howe, at the other end, made a brilliant stop from a close-range effort. Howe repeated the feat a few minutes later before centre back Phil Moore was called on to clear off the line.

It was then Woking’s turn to find the net – a Jay Davies effort from outside the penalty area.

Woking then drew level as Wayne Gray got in behind the visitors’ defence. He ran on and slotted the ball just inside the post.

Half Time: Woking 2 GHA 2

Into the second period and Woking went in front when a low Gez Sole cross from the right was diverted into the net by a GHA defender for an own goal. 'Man of the match' Jay Davies then saw his free-kick scrambled away from danger by the visitors.

Just after the hour mark a sweeping move and cross saw Hutton head home for the visitors to make it 3 goals each. Hutton then missed the ball completely when well placed to score again.

Hutton got his hat-trick with 10 minutes to go to give the Glenn Hoddle side a win and round off an entertaining night for the small crowd. Dave Beasant, the former Wimbledon keeper watched from the Leslie Gosden Stand, while Graham Rix, formerly of Arsenal, joined the small group on the Chris Lane Terrace.

Woking: Aaron Howe, Josh Griffiths, Derek Duncan, Stefan Hayles, Phil Moore, Jay Davies, Gez Sole, Charlie Turnbull, Elvis Hammond, Wayne Gray, Nathan Koranteng.

Subs: George Frith, Trialist, Timmy Taylor, Niall Wright, Issac Nkosi
