Wells City vs Woking
FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round
3pm on Saturday 1st October

Woking begin their FA Cup campaign in Somerset in the 2nd Round Qualifying in the cathedral city of Wells. The fixture has already been surrounded with something of a controversy concerning which club should face us in this round.

Woking

The Cards will want to match if at all possible the success of last season’s route to the 1st Round and two pulsating and very profitable games against the First Division leaders and eventual Champions Brighton and Hove Albion. Garry Hill would appear to have the majority of his squad available for selection and despite the fact that we face a lower league side will want to ensure a victory at the Athletic Ground and avoid any need for a replay. This should mean he fields a strong side.

Garry faces a number of selection dilemmas, not least at Number One with Aaron Howe performing well against Dorchester and providing strong competition for Andy Little’s keeper’s spot. Mark Ricketts filled in for Adam Doyle at Dorchester in the centre of defence due to illness. We might expect to see Adam back in the side providing he has recovered with the Cards' captain moving back into midfield. Up front Wayne Gray has started ahead of Elvis Hammond for the last two games and it will be interesting to see who gets the nod this time round.

Wells City

Wells City play in the interestingly-named Toolstation Western Football League - Premier Division and currently lie in 14th position. They beat Bishop’s Cleeve, a side that Woking met at the start of last season’s Cup campaign, 1-0 away to reach the 1st Round Qualifying before losing in the next round 3-0 to Chippenham Town. Their reinstatement in the competition came about as a result of Chippenham fielding an inegible player.

Striker Steve Murray is the club's leading scorer with eight goals in all competitions.

This will be the first time that Woking FC have played Wells City in a competitive fixture.
