Cards aim to extend unbeaten run

Woking v Tamworth
3pm on Saturday 29 September 2012

Tamworth, who lie 8th in the table, one place above Woking on goal difference, will no doubt prove another tough test for Garry Hill’s side on Saturday. The Cards have won four out of five home games so far, playing some very attractive football, and will be keen to keep their fine home record going. Come down to Kingfield if you possibly can and cheer them on!

WOKING

Garry Hill’s side have won three and drawn one of their last four games and another win would put them on the fringes of the play-off places, although Garry emphasises that his overriding aim is to amass 50 points as quickly as possible to secure safety. It’s a sign, though, of the belief he has in his squad’s ability that he was very disappointed on Tuesday night to come away with only a point from the visit to Ebbsfleet United. Having recovered from a goal deficit to take a 2-1 half-time lead with some excellent play, goals coming from Jack Parkinson and Brett Johnson, the performance tailed off in the second half, allowing the Fleet to claw their way back and share the points.

Another disappointment was that Lee Sawyer, whose midfield partnership with Kevin Betsy has been so influential, picked up his fifth yellow card, meaning that he will be unavailable for Saturday’s game. Garry has a number of options, including drafting Dean Sinclair into the starting eleven.

TAMWORTH

Marcus Law’s side have had a promising start to the season. They reeled off three wins and a draw in their first four games to become one of the early season pacesetters. However, they lost the following four games, before recovering in the last few weeks to notch an impressive 2-0 away win at Gateshead and a 1-0 home win over Lincoln City. On Tuesday night they lost 2-1 at home to Luton Town. Their away record reads won three (at Dartford, Southport and Gateshead) and lost two (at Braintree and Mansfield).

The biggest ‘name’ in the Lambs’ squad is that of former Aston Villa star Lee Hendrie, who, however, has barely figured so far. Top scorer is Adam Cunnington with seven goals to date; he was signed in the summer from Dagenham and Redbridge, having previously been with Kettering and Solihull Moors. A familiar figure in defence is John Dempster, brought in on emergency loan from Mansfield: we’ve previously seen him in Oxford United and Kettering colours. Another former Kettering player is striker Jean-Paul Marna.
