Woking Football Club Press Officer John Moore spoke to Kevin Betsy earlier today to talk about his decision to re-sign for the club last week.

I began by asking Kevin how pleased he was to re-sign for us for another season and whether or not it was an easy decision to make?

“I was delighted to be offered another contract and it was a very easy decision for me to make to sign it. I love the club and I have a great relationship with both the fans and Garry and Thommo. There was never any question of signing for any one else. Woking is the only side I’d play for now. It’s a fantastic club and I've always said that I've returned to play for Woking because I've wanted to give something back to the club who started my career. It just took a little bit of time to sort things out, because I had to speak to Fulham seeing as I also work for them full-time in their academy taking charge of the Under-12 to Under-14 youth programmes."

This led me to ask Kevin how playing for us and training more in the daytime this season will fit in around his coaching commitments at Fulham.

"Fulham have been absolutely fantastic to me, and although coaching in their academy is the next stage of my career, they have been and are so understanding regarding my desire to carry on playing for Woking. In particular, I must thank Huw Jennings, Fulham’s Academy Director, and Alistair Mackintosh, Fulham Chief executive, for being so flexible and supportive, because without this I wouldn't have been able to commit to Woking.

Finally I asked Kevin whether or not the quality signings that Garry's already made this summer had influenced his decision to re-sign?

“Absolutely not, however, I’m very excited by the quality of the players already signed up. Garry's done some business early this summer, which is very pleasing to see, because, not least, it gives us a longer period of time pre-season to gel and get to know each other. There was a great camaraderie amongst the players, both on and off the pitch last season, and I'm so pleased that the core of last season's squad is with us again for the start of the new season. It really helps having quality players around, as well as a settled squad, and this showed in our results and form post-January. On a personal level, it's also very satisfying and enjoyable to be able to play in a team that plays football the right way and one that sets out to entertain the fans.

Finally, it’s great to see the club going forward in the right direction, and I must praise the Board for enabling Garry to assemble the nucleus of a potentially exciting squad so early. Woking is a wonderful club and it's about time we started to realise our potential."
