Frome Town v Woking XI
Pre-season friendly
7.45pm on Tuesday 22 July 2014

A Woking team, mainly consisting of trialists, according to the announcement made when this game was arranged, will travel to Frome Town tomorrow (Tuesday) evening for this pre-season friendly.

WOKING

The Cards’ pre-season has so far seen them beat Falkirk 3-2 and draw 0-0 with a Fulham XI, both at home. The game at Frome Town has been slotted in, ahead of next Saturday’s home game against AFC Wimbledon, and will presumably enable Steve Thompson (and Garry Hill, if he’s back from a well-deserved break) to have another look at some of the trialists already seen in the previous two matches, plus possibly one or two new faces.

FROME TOWN

The Robins were promoted from the Western League to the Southern League Division One South and West at the end of the 2008-09 season and, two years later, were promoted again to the Southern League Premier Division following victory in the play-off final. Their opponents this season will include former Conference Premier clubs Hereford United, Weymouth and Histon.

Their manager is ex-WBA and Torquay striker Adrian Foster, who oversaw a transformation in the Club’s fortunes last season after a troubled start, with Frome eventually finishing in 14th place in the table. He has re-signed most of the key players from last season as well as bringing in some new faces.

In their first pre-season game Frome lost 6-1 at home to Yeovil Town but then beat Westbury United away 6-2 and, on Saturday, they had another good away win, beating Gillingham Town 3-0.

NEXT GAMES

The Cards’ next friendly on Saturday 26 July is sure to attract a bigger than usual crowd, with AFC Wimbledon likely to bring a healthy following. The Dons have made some interesting summer signings, including huge striker Bayo Akinfenwa, so it should be an entertaining game.

The Cards’ remaining pre-season friendlies are:

Saturday 26 July (3pm) Woking v AFC Wimbledon
Wednesday 30 July (7.45pm) Woking v Crawley Town
Saturday 2 August (2pm) Basingstoke Town v Woking
Tuesday 5 August (7.45pm) Woking v West Ham XI

The Conference Premier season starts in earnest on Saturday 9 August when Woking travel to Alfreton Town. The first home game is on Tuesday 12 August when Dartford are the visitors. Why not order a season ticket if you haven’t already got one? It could be an exciting campaign!

Come on, you Cards!
