Silent Night: A unique and special evening

Ian Nicholson - 19th December 2014

Silent Night: A unique and special evening Woking FC was host to a very special Christmas event on 17th December as an estimated crowd of 1000 attended Kingfield for the Silent Night carol event.

Special guests included the Mayor and Mayoress of Woking, Ray Morgan the Chief Executive of Woking Borough Council, Garry Hill and a number of church leaders, councillors and Woking players. Guest contributors included Linvoy Primus and freestyle football world record holder Daniel Cutting.

The multifaceted evening catered for all the family with poignant acts of remembrance, familiar carols and readings, historic displays courtesy of The Trench Experience, interviews, choirs from schools and the community and music from the Unity Band, drawn from different churches. A superb 48 page commemorative programme was available for sale and copies are still available in the club shop with proceeds going to Boost the Budget

The evening was fully sponsored by Woking churches which meant that the collection raised £1690 for the recipient charities – Engage and Woking Hospice.

Linvoy Primus, who does many similar events commented ‘You have to realise this is unique! So many churches, charities and Borough representatives getting together at the football club like this is very special. You’ve started something now!’

Other comments received:

The Mayor and Mayoress thoroughly enjoyed the evening and were overwhelmed by the amount of effort that went into organising this event

Many, many thanks for last night's spectacular evening. I thought the whole event was both thoughtful, sometimes emotional and also fun - a well thought out mixture.

It was a really uplifting experience.

Well done, what a wonderful event, so enjoyable.

It was a really impressive effort. This shows how the football club is very much a community facility and not just about kicking a football.

Thank you for a super evening. I thought the service was excellent and I congratulate everyone involved. My son and daughter thoroughly enjoyed the evening too (and the fish and chips!).

Great event last night – well done to you and the team of helpers. It was good to link the Football Club, Woking Borough Council, and the church communities together

Excellent Job! The service was fantastic - we’ve had really positive feedback.

Congratulations on organising a great event. We had a wonderful evening. Well done!!!!
