A cool spring evening saw the youth team clinch a place in the play-off final with a good win over their visitors from Middlesex. Hayes and Yeading played their part in an entertaining game and had good spells of pressure but were eventually defeated by the odd goal in three.

Woking had an early chance but the shot was blocked. Twelve minutes into the match, however, the home side found themselves behind when they failed to clear their lines, allowing the visitors to go ahead with a low shot just inside the post. Despite failing to keep a clean sheet, Alex Harris in the home goal gave another confident display, making a number of important interceptions at key moments.

The Young Cards were soon back in the game as Charlie Carter made a good run and cross for Woking but the visiting 'keeper was on hand to snuff out the danger.

The home side was not to be denied, however, and levelled the game soon after. The Hayes and Yeading defence failed to clear a loose ball and Jack French pounced to notch the equaliser.

With the half-time interval looming, the home side almost took the lead as a free kick was touched onto the post by the 'keeper.

Half-time: Woking 1 Hayes and Yeading 1

Early in the second period Woking were unlucky not to score a second when a good free kick from Max Austin came back off the bar.

Not to be outdone, a dangerous move from the visitors resulted in Harris diving on the loose ball in the nick of time.

The game now became stretched with both sides looking for a winner.

Aaron Smith-Joseph came on for Woking and was an immediate threat as his extra pace caused problems every time he ran at the Hayes and Yeading defence.

Woking piled on the pressure as the half wore on and racked up a number of corners. From one of these, the winner finally came as Bayley Mummery rose highest in the six yard area to head home.

Woking will now face Bognor Regis Town Youth in the final at the Metropolitan Police ground, Imber Court, East Molesey on Wednesday, 13th May (7.30 pm KO).
