FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round Replay
7.45pm on Tuesday 18 October 2016

The Cards fought back well on Saturday to bring the Gulls back to the Laithwaite Community Stadium for this FA Cup replay. Come down to the Laithwaite Community Stadium on Tuesday evening and cheer the side on to victory!

WOKING

It was a relief on Saturday, after the increasingly dismal displays against Bromley and Sutton United, to find that the character which the Cards had shown in coming back from behind in previous games had not entirely deserted them. A goal down at half-time, Garry Hill’s side seized the initiative and earned a thoroughly-deserved draw, with substitute Anthony Edgar equalising in the 80th minute.

The Cards were without on-loan Matt Tubbs down at Plainmoor since Forest Green Rovers did not want to see him cup-tied. But now that Rovers are out of the Cup – sent packing by Sutton United – presumably Rovers wouldn’t object to him being available for this replay.

TORQUAY UNITED

The Gulls, under inspirational player/manager Kevin Nicholson, engineered a miraculous escape from relegation last season after suffering huge financial problems. A proposed takeover fell through over the summer and the club is now trying to re-establish itself with a community focus.

On the field, Nicholson has been able to strengthen the side, presumably with money coming from the sale of captain Angus MacDonald to Barnsley for an undisclosed fee. Among the new arrivals were ex-Card Brett Williams; Sean McGinty, the ex-Aldershot defender; Lathaniel Rowe-Turner, a defender returning to the club; and Giancarlo Gallifuoco, an Australian U23 defender. Players remaining from last season include striker Nathan Blissett; midfielder Luke Young, scorer of the Gulls’ early goal on Saturday; new captain Courtney Richards; and influential ex-Braintree winger Dan Sparkes.

In the league The Gulls sit in 18th place in the table with 17 points from their opening fifteen games.

The draw for the 1st Round Proper takes place on Monday at 7.00pm.
