The Cards return to the Laithwaite Community Stadium for the first time in almost three weeks on Saturday when play-off outsiders Chippenham Town will be the visitors.

Alan Dowson and his side will be hoping that the home comforts of Kingfield also bring with it a much-needed return to form after just one win in four games in all competitions. Three successive home victories last month had taken the Cards to the top of the National League South table but defeat at Dartford and a disappointing draw at lowly Hungerford Town, either side of a narrow win over Truro City, have allowed Torquay United to retake the lead – albeit only on goal difference after their shock defeat to bottom of the table Weston-super-Mare. A surprise defeat to Banstead Athletic in the Surrey Senior Cup on Tuesday evening, where Dowse fielded a healthy mixture of senior and academy players, will have done little to build confidence, but all will be quickly forgotten and forgiven if the team can secure three precious points this weekend.

Chippenham, who finished in thirteenth place last season, have enjoyed an improved campaign in what is only their second season at this level after promotion in 2017. They currently sit in tenth place, five points outside of the top seven, with 14 wins, 6 draws and 13 defeats so far this season. They’ve also netted an impressive 50 goals, giving them the seventh best attacking record in the division, with more goals than the likes of Bath, Dartford and Concord Rangers. They also gave the Cards a stern test back in November when Woking were forced to come from two goals down to snatch a late draw – Jamar Loza scoring twice. The Bluebirds’ recent form has been mixed with seven points from their last five games – beating Hungerford (3-1) and Weston (1-0), drawing with Hemel (1-1), but losing at Welling (2-1) and at home to Oxford City (1-0) last time out.

There are just ten games left of our league season and the title race looks set to go down to the wire. The team really need your support so please come along if you can and cheer them on!

Woking Team News

Dowse has a number of interesting selection decisions to make this weekend. In defence, new signing Moussa Diarra will be competing for a starting place alongside Ben Gerring and Jack Cook, whilst Ian Gayle will also be hoping to get an opportunity on the right or in the middle of the back four after a standout showing in mid-week.

In midfield, there will be a nervous wait over the fitness of Armani Little, after he was forced off at half-time against Hungerford, whilst Christian Jolley will be competing with Olu Durojaiye for the other spot in the centre of the park. Up front, Dave Tarpey’s loan from Barnet has run out, so two of Jake Hyde, Greg Luer and Harvey Bradbury will be expected to start up front. Out wide, Paul Hodges and Reise Allassani are perhaps the natural choices, although Luer could also start on the wing to make room for his fellow forwards.

Chippenham Town Team News

Last time out, manager Mark Collier selected former Salisbury and Bristol Rovers goalkeeper Will Puddy; in defence was George Rigg, Shrewsbury Town loanee Rhys Davies, Will Richards and ex-Newport County youngster Kieran Parselle; in midfield was Tariq Ossai, Dean Evans and Josh Smile; whilst the front three were Karnell Chambers and Nick McCootie supporting dangerman Nathaniel Jarvis – who has 17 league goals so far this season, making him the division’s joint fourth top scorer.

One man to look out for from the bench is vastly experienced midfielder Yan Klukowski who has been a regular for the likes of Forest Green Rovers and Newport County, and has more recently played for York City and Torquay, he remains more than capable of popping up with a goal.
