Woking will look to reignite their play-off ambitions on Saturday as they take on promotion-chasing Yeovil Town at the Laithwaite Community Stadium.

It’s been a challenging spell for the Cards, with a comprehensive 3-0 defeat at Wrexham last weekend their fourth in the last five league games. It was a result which has seen Alan Dowson’s side fall to tenth in the National League table, two points adrift of the top seven, with the prospect of a challenging home game against the league’s third-place side next up. A morale boosting mid-week win over Kingstonian in the Surrey Senior Cup, courtesy of Max Kretzschmar’s fourth goal of the season, will give the Cards some hope of a return to form, as will an encouraging record of just one defeat on home soil since October, a run of seven matches in all competitions.

Yeovil are looking to make an immediate return to the Football League following their relegation at the end of last season. They have 53 points from their 31 games so far, five fewer than leaders Barrow, who also have two games in hand – but they have a seven-point cushion on eighth-place Stockport. Their recent form is very good, they’ve lost just once in all competitions since mid-November, winning six and drawing six of the last 13 matches, with the only defeat coming at Sutton United at the end of December. Since then, they’ve beaten Torquay (2-0) and Hampton & Richmond (4-0, in the FA Trophy), and drawn with Solihull (0-0) and Hartlepool (2-2). Star striker Rhys Murphy, who has 20 goals in all competitions this season including two in the reverse fixture, was sent off in the game against the Pools, but that red card has since been rescinded.

The team really needs your support this weekend so please come along and cheer them on!

Woking Team News

Dowse should have a near full-strength team to pick from. The boss rotated his squad against Kingstonian, handing opportunities to the likes of Sam Howes, Nathan Collier, Manny Parry, Max Kretzschmar, Paul Hodges, plus new signings Alex Wall and Josh Neufville, with the latter duo set to make their home league debuts this weekend. Jamar Loza will be the only enforced absentee as he starts a two-match ban for his red card in Wales.

Yeovil Town Team News

Against Hartlepool, manager Darren Sarll selected Ted Cann in goal, on loan from West Bromwich Albion; in defence was Birmingham City loanee Remeao Hutton, the experienced Carl Dickinson, formerly of Watford and Port Vale, captain Lee Collins, another former Vale man who has also been with Northampton, Mansfield and Forest Green Rovers, and Luke Wilkinson, ex-Dagenham, Luton and Stevenage.

In midfield was Charlie Lee, part of the promoted Leyton Orient team last season, who has also spent time at Peterborough, Gillingham and Stevenage; Matt Worthington, a one-time Premier League appearance-maker with AFC Bournemouth, Myles Hippolyte, who has spent time in Scotland with Livingston, Falkirk and Dunfermline amongst others, and Albanian Albi Skendi, who signed in the summer from Stratford Town. Up front was veteran Marc Richards, previously with Northampton, Barnsley, Port Vale, Chesterfield and Swindon, alongside top scorer Murphy, who also shone for Chelmsford City in the National League South last season.

Last Time Out

Yeovil Town 3-1 Woking – National League (8th October 2019)

The Cards were well beaten at Huish Park despite, arguably, the goal of the season from Ibrahim Meite. The Glovers bagged three before half-time courtesy of Murphy (2) and James Smith, but an improved second-half performance from the Cards followed, and Meite gave the travelling fans something to cheer with a stunning 25-yard effort.
