Setanta Shield 5th Round
The Cards progressed through to the Quarter Final of the Setanta Shield competition on Monday night with a win over Blue Square Premier rivals Forest Green Rovers.
A Chris Giles own goal in the 15th minute was the deciding factor in the game which saw plenty of chances for both sides before time ran out for the visitors.
Marvin Morgan went close with a shot early on for Woking but it was Giles who put through his own net after a quarter-of-an-hour when he diverted Adam Green?s cross-cum-shot into his own net.
Morgan then ran half the length of the pitch before tiredly firing straight at Rovers keeper Ryan Robinson, and the Woking striker then struck the woodwork as the home side pushed to extend their lead before half time.
Simon Clist went close for Rovers as the interval approached and Woking survived a goalmouth scramble as Jim Harvey?s side fought their way back into the game.
Morgan was again denied by Robinson 10 minutes into the second half and Clist saw a free-kick tipped onto the bar by Woking keeper Ross Worner, and Danny Carey-Bertram then had an effort stopped in the fifth minute of injury time by the young Woking glovesman.
Woking?s victory was soured somewhat by a red card after full time for substitute Izedin Harusha, who was understood to have kicked a member of the opposition.
