Woking came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Exeter City at St James? Park. The Cards pounced with two second half goals and could have nicked a winner at the end against an Exeter side who have only lost once this year.

Woking lined up as they did against Burton Albion at the weekend. Ross Worner continued in goal, protected by a back four of Matt Ruby, Tom Hutchinson, Paul Lorraine, and Danny Bunce. Bradley Quamina and Matt Gray patrolled the midfield, aided by Matt Pattison and Adam Green out wide. Liam Marum partnered Jason Norville up front.

The home side had the better of the opening exchanges. A free kick conceded in the 3rd minute resulted in a wayward shot by Dean Moxey and a couple of Exeter corners were cleared by the Woking defence. However, the Cards hit back in the 12th minute when Jason, with his back to goal, turned and got his shot in well which ?keeper Marriott tipped onto the post and out for a corner.

The first Exeter goal arrived in the 17th minute. Matt Taylor got to Moxey?s corner before Ross Worner and headed home to make it 1-0 to the Grecians.

Wayne Carlisle looked to make it 2-0 shortly afterwards hitting a volley just wide of Ross? left hand post, but Woking edged their way back into the game as the half wore on. A clearance fell to Matt Gray on the edge of the area, but his first time shot was hit straight at Marriott.

Despite this, the second Exeter goal arrived 8 minutes before half time, again from a corner. The corner was flicked on at the near post and Matt Taylor was again on hand to rise highest and head home to make it 2-0.

Half time: Exeter City 2-0 Woking

Early in the second half Frank Grey bought about a double substitution. Marvin Morgan replaced Liam Marum up front and new signing Damien Batt came on for Adam Green. The Cards went to a 3-5-2 formation with Matt Ruby moving into a back three with Lorro and Hutch.

The fightback started shortly afterwards. Patto struck a good cross in from the right which went just beyond Jason in the middle. The Cards made it count in the 58th minute when the roles were reversed and Patto got on the receiving end of a Jason Norville cross. Jason cut in from the right and found Patto in space inside the area. His neat finish made it 2-1.

Woking stepped up another gear, with everyone working hard to close down the Grecians and force an equaliser. Marvin headed over in the 66th minute from a Damien Batt cross and a Danny Bunce cross just evaded Patto looking for his second of the match.

Damien Batt cleared the lines at the other end in the 69th minute. An Exeter effort squeezed past Ross but Batt was on hand to clear off the line and ensure the score stayed 2-1. Adam Stansfield also tried his luck, following a quick free kick. He made space for himself and got his shot away but saw it sail wide.

Jason headed over in the 77th minute as Woking gained the upper hand with the second half drawing to a close. The equaliser arrived in the 89th minute courtesy of Marvin Morgan, who had given Exeter a headache from the moment he came on. Jason kept the ball well before forcing a cross into the area. Marvin was first to his pass and out muscling his marker. His shot nestled in the back of the net from inside the area. Cue jubilant celebrations among both fans and players! It was nothing less than the Cards deserved following their spirited second half performance.

Three minutes of added on time was held up, and if anyone was going to win it it was going to be the Cards. A Jason pass nearly fell to Marvin inside the area, but the whistle blew and Woking had to settle for a point at St James? Park.
