Peterborough United sign Joe Ward from the Cards

10th January 2018
Woking Football Club can announce that Joe Ward has left the Cards to join League One side Peterborough United for an undisclosed fee.

Joe, 22, signed for Woking in June on a two-year deal and immediately impressed the fans with his pace, skill, and high work rate. The tricky winger made 34 appearances for the club, scoring 7 goals including the winner in our opening match of the season against Gateshead, and the crucial equalising goal against his new side Peterborough in the FA Cup 2nd Round to take the tie to a replay.

Before joining the Cards, Joe started his career at Chelmsford City, signing for Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 2015, and joining eventual Vanarama National League champions Lincoln City on loan last season where he scored 3 goals in their journey to the FA Trophy semi-finals, also playing a part in their FA Cup run including against Arsenal at the Emirates.

Anthony Limbrick said: We fought hard to sign Joe Ward in the summer, with interest from Football League clubs and National League clubs, and managed to sign him on a two-year contract. All the football staff have helped develop Joe and improve him as a player and this has shown in his performances in both the league and the FA Cup.

Its a great opportunity for Joe to move up two leagues to a club in the play-offs and trying to push to get into the Championship and we never stand in the way of players wanting to do that. Were happy with the fee and this allows us to reinvest in the squad and bring in players over the next couple of weeks to improve the team.

We wish Joe all the best for the future and thank him for all his efforts for the Cards this season.
