Community Launch Event
The official launch of the Football in the Community initiative took place on 22
September 2004. This took the form of a football tournament for Year 3 & 4 students.
Nine primary schools took part in a six-a-side competition held in Woking Park. All
participants received an FA certificate and a medal of participation, with winners
and runners-up receiving trophies and being invited to an official presentation at
a Woking FC home game. The day attracted over 200 people and the feedback we had
from schools was so positive that this has now become an annual event.
The Year 3 joint winners were Goldsworth Primary and Pyrford Primary who agreed
to share the honours after the deadlock couldn't be broken in the final.
Year 4 winners were West Byfleet, with runners-up being Pyrford Primary.
2005
The 2005 tournament is on 30 September in Woking Park, with 12 schools taking part. We are also delighted to have the Mayor join us for the presentations.
2006
30 teams took part in our annual football tournament for Year 3 & 4 pupils in September 2006. There were some very close games with play-offs being needed for semi-final places.
The Year 3 final was a close match between Goldsworth and Horsell with Goldsworth the eventual 2-0 winners. The Year 4 final between Horsell and St Hugh of Lincoln was another closely fought game and looked as if it was heading to extra time, but in the last 30 seconds Horsell grabbed the winner to win the game 1-0.
The Community Department would like to give special thanks to the referees, Jon Davies at Knaphill Print for the programmes, Ansom Moore for supplying trophies and medals, Surrey FA for wristbands and certificates, SERCO for the marking of pitches, Abbey Rangers for supplying goals and last but not least, Jennifer Tombs for her assistance throughout the day.
