7. Dave Tarpey

The experienced striker joined Woking on a permanent deal in the summer of 2019 following his release by Barnet, having previously spent a one-month loan spell with the club the previous season, helping the Cards to promotion from National League South.

Dave, who had spent almost the entirety of the 2017/18 campaign sidelined with a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury, first moved to the Laithwaite Community Stadium in February 2019, scoring three goals in seven appearances. All of his goals came at home as he netted in consecutive matches against East Thurrock United, Weston-super-Mare and Hemel Hempstead Town, with the Cards taking the maximum nine points. He returned to parent club Barnet to finish the season, making 15 appearances in total and helping steer the club clear of what would have been a second successive relegation – having dropped out of the Football League the previous summer.

The centre forward began his career in the Hellenic Leagues with Henley Town before his performances earned him a move to National League South side Basingstoke Town in 2007. After just over 60 league appearances he moved to divisional rivals Hampton and Richmond Borough in 2009 and became a key player with 31 goals in 115 games – whilst also spending time on loan at Walton and Hersham and Chertsey Town. Two seasons with neighbours Farnborough followed, as well as another short spell at Hampton, before he joined Maidenhead United in 2015. It was with the Magpies that his career somewhat belatedly took off as he became one of the most feared strikers in non-league football. He netted an astonishing 95 goals in 141 games for Maidenhead, including 45 in all competitions during the club’s National League South promotion season in 2016/17, as well as seven in the first six games following promotion to the National League. His exploits finally earned him a career-long dream of a move into the Football League, only for a heartbreaking injury on just his second appearance for Barnet to temper that opportunity. He returns to part-time football this year looking to rediscover his best form and to make a mark on the National League once again.
