Ian joined Woking at the start of the 2018/19 season as a key part of manager Alan Dowson’s coaching staff. His tactical insights and planning quickly paid off as the Cards clinched promotion from the National League South in his first season at the club, defeating Welling United in the end of season promotion final. He also helped mastermind a run to the third round of the FA Cup, where the team famously earned the opportunity to take on Premier League Watford, going down 2-0 at the Laithwaite Community Stadium.
Dyer previously coached alongside managerial colleagues Dowse and Martin Tyler at Hampton & Richmond Borough, where the trio won promotion from the Isthmian League, before reaching consecutive National League South play-off games, losing in the semi-final in 2017 and the final twelve months later, as the Beavers were beaten on penalties by Braintree Town. A UEFA ‘A’ License Professional Coach, Dyer has also worked in the Football League with Portsmouth, Barnet and Fulham in a variety of roles, as well as working at the Coerver Performance Academy which specialises in grassroots player development for players aged 7-17. He signed a new contract with the Cards in April 2021 until the summer of 2023.
