Woking v Chelsea XI
7.45pm on Wednesday 4 August 2010
The Cards’ penultimate pre-season friendly game sees the visit of a Chelsea XI to Kingfield. Graham Baker can be expected to field something approaching his best side for most of the game, whilst the visitors will no doubt contain some very talented youngsters who will be looking to impress, with the possibility that they may be joined by a Chelsea star looking to get fit.
WOKING
Graham Baker told me earlier today (Tuesday) that the emphasis in this game and in Saturday’s match against Luton Town will be to give increasingly more time on the pitch to 14 or 15 players, with a number of them playing 90 minutes. However, it’s possible that the two remaining triallists, Daryn Hennessy and Toby Little, might have a part to play on Wednesday night. If they do, though, this will be their last appearance before Graham makes a final decision on whether he wishes to keep them on at Kingfield.
The only other caveat re the Woking line-up is that Graham will be anxious to avoid aggravating any injuries. Mark Ricketts went off on Saturday with a knock to his hip; Joe McNerney’s ankle is still a bit tender and one or two others have some knocks and ‘tightness’ but there does not sound to be anything too serious. Some good news is that Alan Inns came through Saturday’s game in good shape.
CHELSEA XI
As of this morning, Graham did not have any news of Chelsea’s line-up, although he’s expecting it to comprise young players wholly or mainly. However, a few senior players, including Cech, Alex, Deco and Bosingwa, have not travelled to Germany with their colleagues, in order to work on their fitness, so it’s just possible that one of them might be given a ‘run out’.
ADMISSION
£8 adults, £4 concessions, and U16s will be admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult.
Come on, you Cards!
NB Woking are at home to Luton Town – the bookies’ favourites for promotion from the Conference National – at 3pm on Saturday in their last pre-season friendly game.
