Phil Holder Memorial Relay Marathon

1:36pm, Wed 22nd Sep 2010
On Sunday 3rd October at 10:00am Woking Athletics Club are holding the Phil Holder Memorial Relay Marathon with members of the athletics club along with family and friends running a lap each to make up the marathon distance of 26.2 miles over 105 laps. The idea of the event is to remember Phil, who died on the 11th July this year (the day of the World Cup Final) due to a combination of Bladder Cancer and Dementia. It is also to raise money for the Bob Champion Cancer Trust and St Magnus Care Home where he spent the last six months of his life.

Phil was a member of Woking Athletics Club for over twenty years and competed in four London Marathons raising lots of money for charity along the way, hence the idea behind the relay marathon. He also loved his football and was a very keen Woking (and Arsenal) supporter and came to many games at Kingfield and introducing me, his son, to the ups and downs of supporting The Cards.

Some of the Woking FC supporters team will be running as well (we have booked a taxi for a couple of them) to support the event and it would be great if we could make as much money as possible for both worthwhile causes. If you would like to donate please follow the just giving link or find a sponsorship form in the club shop at the Braintree game on the 2nd October.
