Graham Baker and the first team squad took time out in the week leading up to Christmas to visit the children’s wards at St Peters and the Royal Surrey, the Chase Hospice and deliver Christmas hampers to some people in particular need in the Woking area.
The visits have become an annual feature of the players’ year and we are now well known in each place – it is moving to meet young people who are often very sick and yet cheerful and positive at the same time. We were able to give specially requested items – an Xbox360 for teenage patients at St Peters, computer games for games consoles we previously donated for the Teenage Cancer Centre at the Royal Surrey and a cheque for over £300 to the Chase. There were also loads of cuddly toys and Woking shirts handed out.
The hampers were received really enthusiastically and Chris Sexton even received a proposal of marriage – from a lady of 88!
Thank you to everyone who donated money, toys and foodstuffs and a big thanks to Graham and the players for their involvement.
