Blue Square Bet South Play-Off Guide by Alan Alger from Blue Square

Blue Square Bet South runners-up Farnborough are the narrow 9/4 favourites with league sponsors Blue Square to go up via the play-offs. Steve King’s team battled valiantly with eventual champions Braintree Town in the title race but must now negotiate three games for a place in the Blue Square Bet Premier. Their semi-final opponents are local rivals Woking who are in fantastic form. The Cards finished six points behind second place but are quoted as short as 5/2 to win promotion after being beaten in last year’s final. The sides met twice in the final two months of the regular season and Garry Hill’s team came out on top with a draw and an away win. Blue Square quote Hill’s side at 10/11 to go through to the final, with Farnborough slight favourites at 4/5.

The other semi-final pits Kent against Essex with third placed Ebbsfleet United doing battle against Chelmsford City. The Fleet have done remarkably well to be in contention following their relegation for the top-flight last season. It’s unusual for a relegated team to bounce straight back but Liam Daish’s men now have every chance. Chelmsford have suffered semi-final heartache in the play-offs two seasons running and the pressure is on them to make it third time lucky. Glenn Pennyfather’s team are the outsiders at 3/1 with their opponents making up a tight quartet of prices at 5/2. Ebbsfleet are the 8/11 favourites to make the final.
