Merstham v Woking
Surrey Senior Cup 2nd Round
7.45pm on Tuesday 8 January 2013

On Tuesday evening the Cards make their fourth attempt to begin their Surrey Senior Cup campaign with a trip to Merstham. The Moatsiders currently lie in 14th place in the Ryman League Division One South. With Woking not having had a game at the weekend, this fixture gives a good opportunity for players to get some time on the pitch in advance of next Sunday’s important league game against Ebbsfleet United.

Garry Hill’s side should be in good spirits after a heartening 3-1 win over Luton Town on New Year’s Day. There’s been a boost too in the news of the signing of John Nutter and the extended loan of Billy Knott.

The winners of Tuesday’s tie will travel to Farnham Town in the next round.

The Moatsiders, much like Woking, don’t seem to have much difficulty in scoring goals but seem to find it hard to keep a clean sheet. So far, they’ve scored 42 goals in 21 games but have let in 44. On Saturday they drew 1-1 at home to Burgess Hill Town, with the goal coming from Lee Newman. Merstham had mixed fortunes over the holiday period, grabbing a fine 4-2 win at Tooting and Mitcham on Boxing Day but then losing at home to local rivals Chipstead 4-1 on New Year’s Day.

Familiar names in the Merstham squad include striker Mark Nwojeki, who has scored against us for Staines and AFC Wimbledon and is on loan to Merstham from Kingstonian; central defender Tutu Henriques, who made over 350 appearances for Bromley; and former Dover striker Luke I’Anson.

The AA recommended route is as follows. Leave the M25 at J8 (signposted Reigate/Redhill) and join the A217. Then turn left again after about 700 yards onto A242 and then left again onto A23 (London/Croydon). After about 800 yards turn right onto Station Road South (signposted Station). Continue forward onto School Hill (look for the brown information sign) and then turn left onto Bletchingley Road. Turn right onto Worsted Green and then right onto Weldon Way. The clubhouse and a small car park are just over 100 yards on your right.

You can either change at Clapham Junction or travel via changes at Guildford and Redhill. Look up or for more details. Leave Merstham station by the main entrance (using the footbridge if necessary) and take the road to the left (Station Road South). Go to the top of the road and turn left down School Hill. Take 5th right (Weldon Way).

The Cards take on Ebbsfleet United at 1pm on Sunday 13 January. All U16s will be admitted free to this game, so spread the word!

Come on, you Cards!
