Merstham v Woking
Surrey Senior Cup 2nd Round
7.45pm on Tuesday 8 January 2013

On Tuesday evening the Cards make their fourth attempt to begin their Surrey Senior Cup campaign with a trip to Merstham. The Moatsiders currently lie in 14th place in the Ryman League Division One South. With Woking not having had a game at the weekend, this fixture gives a good opportunity for players to get some time on the pitch in advance of next Sunday’s important league game against Ebbsfleet United.

WOKING

Garry Hill’s side should be in good spirits after a heartening 3-1 win over Luton Town on New Year’s Day. There’s been a boost too in the news of the signing of John Nutter and the extended loan of Billy Knott.

The winners of Tuesday’s tie will travel to Farnham Town in the next round.

MERSTHAM

The Moatsiders, much like Woking, don’t seem to have much difficulty in scoring goals but seem to find it hard to keep a clean sheet. So far, they’ve scored 42 goals in 21 games but have let in 44. On Saturday they drew 1-1 at home to Burgess Hill Town, with the goal coming from Lee Newman. Merstham had mixed fortunes over the holiday period, grabbing a fine 4-2 win at Tooting and Mitcham on Boxing Day but then losing at home to local rivals Chipstead 4-1 on New Year’s Day.

Familiar names in the Merstham squad include striker Mark Nwojeki, who has scored against us for Staines and AFC Wimbledon and is on loan to Merstham from Kingstonian; central defender Tutu Henriques, who made over 350 appearances for Bromley; and former Dover striker Luke I’Anson.
