Woking Football Club are bitterly disappointed that last night’s game against Newport County was unable to go ahead, particularly given the huge and valiant efforts made by our magnificent supporters and staff to get the game played.

Having initially declared that he was happy for the game to be played, the referee later changed his decision due to rapidly deteriorating weather conditions. Ultimately, it is the referee’s decision whether or not a game is played and, in view of the prevailing conditions at the time, he had no alternative but to call the game off, with the players’ and spectators’ safety being of paramount consideration.

Nonetheless, Woking Football Club wish to apologise to everyone concerned, not least to the board, management, players and supporters of Newport County, for the time expended and the inconvenience suffered as a result of the game being called off so near to kick-off.

Finally, Woking Football Club wish to thank everyone again who played their part in trying to get the match on and also wish to recognise and acknowledge some forty members of the Woking Academy, who were involved in this mammoth task and are working hard on clear-up operations today.
