Woking's youngsters missed out on the opportunity of making it through to the first round proper of the FA Youth Cup following a well-contested match on the Dorset coast.

The young Cards had the better of the opening exchanges but were unable to make their superiority count. The home side then came into the game and had their own period of pressure culminating in a number of shots on target but good work from Alex Harris in the Woking goal kept the scores level.

Carlos Anderson then found himself in the clear for the visitors but Tom Jackson in the Poole goal narrowed the angle well to get in a good block.

On the half-hour, Poole went ahead in somewhat fortunate circumstances when a good cross resulted in Dan Bedford heading into his own net. Buoyed on by the opening goal, the home side piled on the pressure but could not add to the scoreline.

Half-time: Poole Town 1 Woking 0

Woking started after the break on the front foot and had a good chance to level things up when a corner dropped favourably, but the chance went begging. Having to push forward, Woking were in danger of being caught on the break, but the home side were wasteful in front of goal.

As the second half progressed, Woking were dealt a blow when Alex Harris was injured as he bravely came out to close down an onrushing forward and damaged his ribs in the process. After a long period of treatment, he was replaced by outfield player Taylor Watts as the team had already used up their three substitutions.

The visitors were now forced to play out the remaining quarter of an hour with ten men and were dealt a killer blow shortly afterwards. Pushing forward in search of the equaliser, the ball was lost on the edge of the Poole area. A swift break ended with a cross from the right being hit home well by Dan Munday although there was a suspicion of offside in the build-up.

Nevertheless, Poole Town were worthy winners on the night and now progress to a home tie with Torquay United.
