Cobham 2 Woking 2 AET
Woking won 4-3 on penalties
10th May 2007
Both teams were desperate to put on a good display in this Cup Final but a hard ground coupled with heavy rain all night made it difficult for both sides to play a passing game.
Two outstanding Woking goals one in each half from Yanic Owusu should have seen this game over but some complacency from Woking allowed a hard working Cobham side to claw their way back with two goals in five minutes to bring the sides in at 2-2 after full time.
Extra time saw both sides suffering from cramp, however with Woking finishing the stronger Cobham managed to hold out and take the game to penalties.
Always a lottery Cobham took the first penalty and hit the crossbar.
Ian Hester took the first for Woking and the Keeper saved with his feet.
Cobham scored their next three.
As did Sam Robinson, Yanic Owusu and Ricardo Williams for Woking.
The fifth penalty for Cobham saw them hit the post.
Jamie Montgomery took the fifth Woking penalty, Jamie had not scored a goal all season but had the confidence to put his name in the hat ? he stepped up and coolly slotted the ball home and the celebrations began.
Penalties: Cobham 3 Woking 4.
Firstly a word about Cobham, their boys gave their all and on another day could have won this game, their manager should have every reason to be proud of their performance on the night.
The Woking youngsters (all bar one u17?s in this game) have got into a winning habit, even when things are not going particularly well they have an inbuilt belief in themselves that they will win.
Congratulations to them all on adding another Cup to the already bulging Woking Academy Trophy cabinet.
