The Cards will be hoping to repeat on Tuesday evening the fine performance they put on against Chester in their last home game, when they grabbed their first win of the season. Come down to the Laithwaite Community Stadium and cheer them on to victory!

WOKING

It was crucial that Garry Hill’s side avoided defeat at bottom-of-the-table Guiseley on Saturday, so a draw was a satisfactory result by and large, although it sounds as if the Cards had enough opportunities in the first half to have hoped for all three points. Garry was pleased to have Delano Sam-Yorke back from injury, leading the line with Gozie Ugwu, and midweek loan signing, Connor Essam, helped to ensure that the side was more secure at the back. With some more tough games coming up, Garry will be very keen to get something out of Tuesday evening’s match and clearly believes that his side are capable of hauling themselves up the table.

The Cards remain in 22nd place in the table with five points from nine games.

TORQUAY UNITED

The Gulls, under inspirational player/manager Kevin Nicholson, engineered a miraculous escape from relegation last season after suffering huge financial problems. A proposed takeover fell through over the summer and the club is now trying to re-establish itself with a community focus.

On the field, Nicholson has been able to strengthen the side, presumably with money coming from the sale of captain Angus MacDonald to Barnsley for an undisclosed fee. Among the new arrivals were ex-Card Brett Williams; Sean McGinty, the ex-Aldershot defender; Lathaniel Rowe-Turner, a defender returning to the club; and Giancarlo Gallifuoco, an Australian U23 defender. Players remaining from last season include striker Nathan Blissett; midfielder Luke Young; new captain Courtney Richards; and influential ex-Braintree winger Dan Sparkes.

The Gulls sit in 14th place in the table with 13 points from their opening nine games. Wins have come at home to Bromley, Dover and York City and away to Braintree, while a draw was achieved at home to Barrow. Other defeats were at the hands of Macclesfield, Sutton, North Ferriby, all away from home, and Lincoln City at Plainmoor. Saturday’s 2-0 win at home to York City came from two goals from Nathan Blissett.
