New partnership with Surrey Young Carers and Guildford Diocese

4:48pm, Tue 23rd Oct 2018
Woking Football Club were delighted to host many young carers and their families to the recent game against Chelmsford City. Young carers carry significant responsibility in the home, usually helping family members who have significant health problems.

12 young people, aged 10 or 11, were selected from among an estimated 1200 young carers in Woking to be match day mascots. On the day they saw behind the scenes, had a meal, received a first team shirt and met Dowse and the first team players.

Trudy Waite, Surrey Carers senior support officer, said: "Young carers are a little army that do a lot more for their families than one would normally expect at their age. All the players were very friendly and welcoming to the children which was wonderful when you think they were getting ready for the match. They were brilliant."

Many thanks to Guildford Diocese and Rev Clive Richardson who sponsored the initiative. It was a huge success and it is hoped that it will become an annual event.
