Update from the Club Board

20th May 2020

Update from the Club Board Even without action on the pitch it has been a very busy week or so – with more to come; there is therefore quite a bit to communicate!

Get Behind The Shirt

This campaign was a resounding success and we moved from 900 to 1526 names in the final few days. As others have commented the scheme has also boosted our shirt sales as we look forward! The list of names is now finalised with Macron, our kit suppliers, and these unique shirts are promised for late July.

In particular our thanks go to
  • Sam Loxton and Steve Knight for spearheading the scheme and Nick Shaw for lots of hours putting up player videos

  • You, the fans, for not only putting your names down but also going that little bit further with extra packages and encouraging friends and family to sign up

  • GU7 Cardinals and We Are The Cardinals for forming into consortia to sponsor the inside collar

  • All those who entered the ‘front of shirt’ sponsorship offer - many congratulations to Lovetts and Millennium for being our main shirt sponsors next season. We also thank MKJ, Lockstone and Biffa for continuing their sponsorship of the back of the shirt, sleeve and shorts

  • The manager, management team and players for contributing tweets and videos in the last day or so

  • Martin Black and all those who put names down for our NHS heroes

  • England Internationals, celebrity fans, former players and the ‘one and only’ Chesney Hawkes for promotional videos and tweets

  • Macron, our kit suppliers, for the excellent concept and support of the club

The success of this scheme at this uncertain time gives us much more chance of kicking on as football resumes; thank you again.

Shop Sale

A sale has begun of last season’s stock – in particular shirts are now available from £20. You can also buy the aborted Dagenham programme which has Matt Jarvis on the cover and Henry Winter’s (Times sports journalist) wonderful article on Woking FC and proper football! The price includes all postage and packing. Check it out here.

The football future?

We seem to be moving slowly towards some sort of resolution with the EFL decision to decide Division 2 on points per game and ask for no relegation this season; this awaits FA ratification. We can now be as certain as possible that our season is finished and would like to thank all our players for their tremendous efforts last season; we look forward to seeing many in a Woking shirt in the future and wish them all well.

The ground remains locked with minimum activity until we are advised otherwise by the government.

Player of the Season

The voting for Fans Player of the Season through the Trust has been extended until the end of the month. It currently hangs in the balance and if you have not yet cast your vote please do so now at www.cardstrust.co.uk/player-of-the-season-2020-poll/

NB You do not need to be a Trust member to cast your vote

Ground Development

The pandemic has inevitably impacted Woking Borough Council business and all face to face Council meetings having been cancelled. However new legislation has now been passed to allow Councils to run virtual meetings and, as a result, the Planning application for the Football Club development will hopefully be determined at the virtual Planning meeting arranged for 23 June. We will update regularly on how fans can be involved.

End of Season ‘Dinner’ – Saturday 27th June

Plans are in place for a virtual end of season awards dinner which will be an opportunity for all fans to get in a takeaway and a tipple, say thank you to the players, hear from the manager and chairman and congratulate the winners.

Moving with Myles

In recent weeks on social media you may have seen players running 5k and contributing to this excellent initiative for the NHS by Myles Anderson of Harrogate Town. The original target of £5000 was smashed and the fund now stands at well over £12k. One by one National League teams are having their day for fans to get involved and we will be letting you know when our nominated day is and how you can get involved. Watch this space!

That’s enough for now but we hope you and your loved ones are well. Speak soon.
