Update from the Club Board

6:13pm, Mon 22nd Jun 2020
We hope that you and your loved ones are well. This update focusses on two key days this week - the Planning Community decision tomorrow and the Awards night and Community day this coming Saturday.

Independent and open letter to our Councillors

The Club Board has just submitted an open letter on the Club’s behalf to all our Borough Councillors along with an associated factual document on housing provision. Amidst all the competing voices we have wanted to summarise our case on your behalf and also argue for the long term community benefit of the proposed scheme. You can read it here.

Decision Day is tomorrow

Initially we had been imagining a large, physical and positive presence in the town as the Planning decision was considered regarding the Stadium redevelopment. For obvious reasons that will not now be possible but you can still follow Planning Committee proceedings from 7pm online here.

The Awards Dinner

The trophies have arrived (and look really good), we have the online link, photoreel, goals of the season clips and the highlights package in place. The players, management, Academy and Supporters Trust are lined up and Martin Tyler is working on his questions of the season with us!! The Chairman will say a few words post the Planning decision as well

To book your place simply go here.

Marathon / Tour de France Charity Day – new charities added

This coming Saturday we have been nominated to get active and help raise money for some great charities. The teams are growing – Ian Dyer’s family are doing the Marathon distance between them, Woking Diamonds are a ladies cycling team covering the full 97 miles and Nick Davidson is hard core; he is on shifts on Saturday but will set off at 5 am to cover 97 miles before work! The Academy, Centre of Excellence, Ladies, Goldsworth park and many other are getting their thoughts together.

Don’t be intimidated by the 97 milers – you can do your bit – whatever it is. We will follow everyone on social media. Those of us who can’t actively do much can choose which charity to support – the great news is that alongside the NHS charities Myles has added 2 more – Show Racism the Red Card and MIND, the mental health charity. Email marathonremix@wokingfc.co.uk to ask how you can be involved

Initial details are here.

Football – remember that!

Woking v Barnet in March seems a lifetime ago! The National League has finalised positions through a Point per Game formula and we argued strongly and voted for full promotion and relegation where possible – including 4 up and 4 down between the Premier and Regional levels of the National league; we felt that was the fairest way forward. Play offs will happen given certain conditions being met.

Everything else is uncertain. Football at our level is very dependent on crowds and the resumption of playing could happen as early as September or as late as the end of January!! It is a juggling act and nothing like this has ever happened before. The Board is monitoring cashflow and reserves very closely and meeting weekly when necessary to ensure we are ready to kick into action at the right time.

We will keep you posted.

Thank you for your patience and support.
