RIP John Taylor

7:59am, Wed 15th Jul 2020
Woking FC are saddened to hear of the recent death of former Board member and Club Chairman John Taylor. Our thoughts and prayers are with the wider Taylor family at this sad time.

John moved to Woking in the early 1970’s and immediately attended games and fell in love with the club. He and his wife May were regular supporters at Kingfield and he was honoured to be asked to be Club Secretary by Phil Ledger – an impending family holiday to Australia was abandoned to take the role!

John formed a close relationship with Geoff Chapple and Colin Lippiatt, supporting them throughout their successful stint at Woking. John eventually stepped up to the role of Chairman in the late 90’s due to the sudden resignation of the previous incumbent.

John enjoyed being one of the ‘boys’ on matchdays; from Yeovil to Gateshead he enjoyed the long trips away, be it with his wife May in the Jaguar or on the coach with the committee, staff and players. John enjoyed the banter with the players on the coach and found happiness in the simple things with memories of cleaning the stands at Kingfield with Geoff on Sundays being a highlight of his time there. Obviously John had fond memories of the three trips to Wembley and always reminded everyone that Woking never lost when he was there.

John’s passion of Woking FC lives on through his grandson Eliot who is an avid supporter of the club.
