There are two imminent changes behind the scenes at the club.
Financial oversight
After several years sterling work keeping on top of the club finances Peter Velati is now stepping down. Club accounting is complex and the club is very grateful to Peter for the many hours worked, over and above expectation, to steer the ship. Thank you Peter.
We interviewed several strong candidates to replace Peter and are delighted that Sean Carey has agreed to take the role. Sean is Pyrford based, a Woking fan and also very involved in local boys football through his sons, particularly Abbey Rangers. Sean and Peter have begun the handover and we welcome him to the team and wish him well.
Cards Trust representative on the Club Board
After nearly 7 years as the Trust elected representative on the Club Board Ian Nicholson is standing down. This was first mooted last December but Ian decided to remain through to the planning hearing in June. Ian’s desire is to focus purely on his chaplaincy role which has taken something of a back seat in recent years. He will also focus on strengthening the club’s community reach and continue to support the communication side of Woking FC.
At a future date the Cards Trust will appoint an interim representative onto the Club Board until such time as a formal replacement can be elected at a Cards Trust AGM
Rosemary Johnson comments on Ian’s time as a Director ‘ Ian's enthusiasm for the club, working with the community, sorting out communications and his chaplaincy have been invaluable to the work that the club does. Ian is clear his support for Woking Football Club will continue but after seven years feels that he needs to reshape his role within the club. I am very grateful for all his support and wise counsel and know that he will always be there when I need his wisdom.’
