Any hopes that the Cards would bounce back convincingly from last week?s Cup exit proved unfounded at Kingfield this afternoon as a lacklustre Woking side struggled to create chances against a side who had previously gained only one point away from home this season.
The Cards, missing Marvin Morgan up front, and with Matt Gray in midfield in place of Bradley Quamina, shared a scrappy opening period with the visitors. Droylsden probably had more of the possession but their defence looked vulnerable. Woking took the lead in the 17th minute as an attempted clearance fell kindly to Gez Sole where he is at his most dangerous: on the edge of the box. His shot wasn?t clean but it found the far corner past a possibly unsighted keeper, who did not move.
The Cards were unable to build on their lead and it was Droylsden who looked more likely to score as they fired in several shots from distance. In the 36th minute a tackle by Goma Lambu merely succeeded in pushing the ball into Kevin Lynch?s path and he made no mistake from the edge of the box to level the scores.
The second half started with a rash of bookings and substitutions and the quality of the football continued to be poor. Terry Fearns came closest for the Bloods when Nick Gindre saved at the second attempt in the 60th minute. Liam Marum, on as a substitute for Gez Sole, had a great chance to steal all three points in the 81st minute when he pounced on a ball slipped through by another substitute, Jerome Maledon. He slipped the ball over the advancing keeper with the outside of his foot but it went wide. Just before full time Joe Gatting had a good effort parried clear by the Droylsden keeper.
This was another disappointing display by the Cards in a game from which anything less than three points has to be viewed as a poor result.
