Yeovil Town vs Woking
Buildbase FA Trophy
Saturday 18th December 2021

Woking will be aiming to build on the momentum of Tuesday night’s win over neighbours Westfield when they travel to Yeovil Town in the Buildbase FA Trophy this weekend.

The Cards put an end to a run of three consecutive defeats by dispatching Isthmian League side in relatively comfortable fashion, although it took 70 minutes to make the breakthrough, a brace from striker Inih Effiong and a first senior goal for on loan defender Louie Annesley ensured safe passed into the next round of the Surrey Senior Cup.

Alan Dowson’s side will now be looking to progress in another cup competition, albeit it in a far trickier tie on paper, against a Yeovil side who are unbeaten in their last 10 games in all competitions and have progressed to the third round of the FA Cup.

Dowse experimented with his side in mid-week, with the likes of Tommy Block, Tyreke Johnson, Jamar Loza, Tarryn Allarakhia, and academy defender Jake Rumble given the opportunity to start the game, and the boss should have a near full squad to pick from this weekend. Kyran Lofthouse and Solomon Nwabuokei both missed last Saturday’s 2-0 loss at home to Boreham Wood due to illness, but could be available again, whilst there are no fresh injury concerns.

Opposition Watch

After an indifferent start to the season, Yeovil’s impressive run of form has seen them rise to ninth in the league table, four points adrift of seventh place with a game in hand. Recent league outings have seen them beat Barnet, Wrexham, Bromley, Dagenham & Redbridge, and Eastleigh since the start of last month, whilst they also knocked League Two side Stevenage out of the FA Cup and await a third-round tie with Championship promotion-chasers AFC Bournemouth. They also comfortably beat the Cards 2-0 at Huish Park in late October.

Yeovil’s top scorer this season is former Woking loanee Joe Quigley, who has scored six times this season, whilst veteran forward Adi Yussuf and midfielder Charlie Wakefield have five each. Their squad, managed by Darren Sarll, also includes ex-Woking captain Josh Staunton.
