Woking vs Aldershot Town
Vanarama National League
Sunday 2nd January 2022

Woking will be looking to extend their unbeaten run in the National League to three matches on Sunday, as they take on local rivals Aldershot Town in the club’s first match of 2022.

An improved Woking side have enjoyed a productive festive period thus far, taking four points out of a possible six, thanks to last weekend’s late draw at Aldershot, followed by Tuesday’s win over bottom of the table Dover Athletic, where a brace from Inih Effiong and another penalty from Max Kretzschmar inspired a first win in five league outings. The scoreline could, and perhaps should, have been more comfortable, had the Cards taken one of a litany of late chances before the visitors set up a grandstand finish with a goal three minutes from time.

The Cards, who now sit 12th in the league table, will be boosted on Sunday by the return from suspension of centre back Joe McNerney, who served his one game ban against Dover, whilst Jamar Loza is also available again after a three-game suspension, having returned from the bench against the Whites. Striker Louis Britton is available for the final time before his one-month loan from Bristol City expires the following day.

Opposition Watch

Aldershot’s seven-match unbeaten run, which included five wins, came to an end on Tuesday afternoon when they fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat at Dagenham & Redbridge. The result leaves the Shots in 17th in the league standings, six points clear of the bottom three, but still seven adrift of the Cards.

Manager Mark Moseley made seven changes for the game, with only goalkeeper Laurie Walker and defenders Lewis Kinsella, Corey Jordan, and Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain retaining their place in the team. Fellow defender Alfie Saunders severed the first of a three-match suspension following his straight red card against the Cards on Boxing Day.
