Each year, Woking Football Club is pleased to partner with the Mayor of Woking in supporting their chosen charity.
The current Mayor, Liam Lyons, has chosen to support Woking MIND in its invaluable work with those who are struggling with mental health issues. Our Chairman, Rosemary Johnson is also a former president of Woking MIND and a big advocate of its work.
The mayor adds: “I have chosen Woking MIND as my mayoral charity to support this year, as mental health is such a prominent issue for so many, exacerbated by the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
“One in four of us will suffer from mental health problems at some stage in our lives, and I want to help normalise talking about these issues in the same way we discuss physical health.
“Over the last two years, the issue of mental health in adults and children has been even more relevant and I hope this support will enable the excellent team to reach even more people and offer them the support they need.”
In addition, the Club is honoured to have pioneered, through our community work, the Surrey Community Football League with Woking MIND several years ago. This innovative league introduced football provision for adults who suffer with mental health challenges, and we are delighted to have a number of the teams represented as our guests today alongside friends and clients of Woking MIND.
As the Mayor says, one in four of us will face a mental health challenge in any given year and emerging from the pandemic the demand is growing
