Barnet vs Woking
Vanarama National League
Saturday 19th March 2022
Woking will be seeking consecutive National League victories for the first time since early October when they travel to Barnet on Saturday afternoon.
The Cards continued their recent improvements under caretaker manager Ian Dyer last weekend, when Nicke Kabamba’s first Woking goal secured a 1-0 win over Maidenhead United, ending a nine-match winless run. It was also the first time since March last year that the Cards have recorded back-to-back league clean sheets following Tuesday’s goalless draw with King’s Lynn Town.
A second-string Woking side, including a mix of youth players and those who have been on the fringes of the starting eleven in recent weeks, were beaten 2-0 at Chertsey Town in the Surrey Senior Cup in mid-week, but Dyer will likely revert to a full-strength team for their trip to the Hive. Kyran Lofthouse and Jermaine Anderson are the only players currently sidelined through injury.
Opposition Watch
Barnet are currently one point and one place above the Cards in the league standings, with 38 points from 32 games, already seven points more than they recorded in the whole of last season. They have been in reasonable form of late, winning both their games this month, thrashing bottom club Dover Athletic 6-0, before upsetting play-off chasing Boreham Wood 1-0 last time out. Last month however, they won just one of seven, against Aldershot Town, and went five games without a win.
They are managed by Dean Brennan, the former Hemel Hempstead, Billericay, Kingstonian, and Wealdstone boss, who has been in charge since September following the departure of Harry Kewell after just seven games. After several months as caretaker boss, in February he officially stepped back from his Head of Football role to become Head Coach on a permanent basis.
His squad includes a couple of familiar faces – Harry Taylor and Reece Grego-Cox, a recent addition on loan from Crawley Town, have both had short spells with the Cards. Their top scorer is striker Adam Marriott, who has nine this season, including both goals in the reverse fixture in November.
