Woking Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Rhys Browne.

The versatile forward, 26, joins the Cards from Wealdstone for an undisclosed fee. Browne has signed a two-year deal through to the end of the 2023/24 season with a Club option for the 2024/25 season.

Rhys Browne has impressed in the National League this season, scoring seven goals in 12 games for the Stones.

A product of the Norwich City academy, Rhys joined Charlton Athletic in 2014. His first spell in the National League was with Aldershot Town, racking up 37 league appearances before earning a move to League Two Grimsby Town. During a loan spell at Macclesfield Town in 2017, Browne made 17 National League appearances and scored at Wembley in the FA Trophy final.

His form earned him a move to League Two Yeovil Town ahead of the 2017/18 season, making 63 appearances for the Glovers across two seasons. A third League Two spell came in 2019/20 with Port Vale. Sutton United signed Rhys half-way through their 2020/21 National League-winning campaign. Wealdstone secured his signature in the summer of 2021 and signs for the Cards following a strong start to the 2022/23 season.

"Rhys is a much awaited addition to the squad. We have spoke openly about the need to recruit when is right, and after the way Rhys started the season, he came to the attention of a lot of clubs," said Woking Manager Darren Sarll.

"We felt the time was right to make this transfer possible, Rhys has many attacking, creative and athletic qualities that will suit our style of play. He has chosen Woking over potentially bigger and more established football clubs.

"We are delighted to have him and to be backed by the owners, and we must say that Wealdstone conducted themselves in the most professional of fashions." Sarll added.

“Going back to the start of the interview process, Darren was emphatic about the way the Club needed to conduct its recruitment,” said Woking Chief Executive John Katz.

“Even as the season began, he was insistent on only adding players that could come in and make an impact on our performances and results. Rhys Browne is a high-impact signing and we’re excited to welcome him to our talented core of forwards.”

“To compete against the budget heavy hitters in this league, we can’t sit with our back against the ropes and absorb punches. We have to be aggressive in our approach to bringing in the right players at the right time, and I think we’ve pounced quickly and improved the side today.” Katz added.

Hear from Browne in his first interview as a Cardinal.

Rhys is eligible to make his Woking debut tomorrow, Saturday 15th October, in the Emirates FA Cup against Southend United.

Tickets are available at the discounted price of £18 for Adults, Concessions £13, Next-Gen (16-22) £10, and Under 16s £5.
