Matt Ward wins the first Cards Trust Player of the Month award this season, as he claims August's prize.
Ward, 21, had a fantastic impact in his first few games as a Card, getting his first assist just one minute after coming off the bench against Dagenham & Redbridge, in our 1-0 win under the lights. He then followed this up with his first goal for the club against Ebbsfleet United, despite only being on the pitch for less than ten minutes. No more than 48 hours later, he played a significant role in our 3-2 comeback against Hartlepool United as he came on as a half-time substitute and scored a brilliant goal before going on to set up both Tunji Akinola and then Harry Beautyman in added on time. This was enough to earn the young winger a new contract extension until the end of the season.
