Woking Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of Charlie Sayers.
The 20-year-old left sided defender joins as a free agent.
A left footed defender who can play left-back or centre-back, Sayers came through the Southend United academy, making his debut aged just 17 in a National League game at Solihull Moors in October 2021. He made six appearances for the Shrimpers before moving to Tottenham Hotspur in December of that same year to join their under-18s squad.
He went on to sign a pro contract with Spurs in March 2022, after featuring in both their under-18s and under-23s, captaining the former. Sayers would go on to become a regular in Premier League 2, as well as playing in the UEFA Youth League in 2022, assisting twice in a win over Marseille.
Following his release last summer, Sayers joined Scottish Championship side Partick Thistle on a three-year deal, playing eight times before mutually terminating his contract in January. He joins the Cards hoping to add competition at the back.
Director of Football Jody Brown added, “We needed someone to replace Jokubus Mazionis, who has been a big loss to the group and the way we have tried to play. Neal [Ardley] and Simon [Bassey] got Charlie in to train and have liked lots that they’ve seen.”
“He's had a good football upbringing, already tasted senior football, he’s not cup tied, is left footed, and has fitted into the group really well. We are pleased to be able to formally add him to the squad.”
Charlie is available for sponsorship. Email simon.jones@wokingfc.co.uk to find out more.
