Community Club of the Year 2015

9th June 2015
At the Vanarama National League (formerly The Football Conference) Annual Congress weekend held at Celtic Manor, Newport, Wales. Woking FC was awarded Community Club of the Year, 2015.

Broken down into categories, Woking were nominated in two areas and voted best community club by The Football Conference Trust (funded by The Premiership and The professional Footballers Association). This is a fantastic achievement by the club, considering the stiff competition from over 50 other clubs in the premiership, north and south divisions. Woking has now won this award in 3 of the last 4 years, a truly remarkable and outstanding effort by Jane Spong, and the team of Chris Sexton, Ryan Dent , Liam Allen and all the volunteers.

Without the generous support of The Football Conference Trust, Woking Borough Council and Surrey County Council much of the work done by the community scheme would not be possible. Woking FC wishes you to know that it shares this award with the Woking Borough & Surrey County Council as without their support the work in the community would not be as imaginative and as far reaching.

Commenting on the scheme and the award Jane Spong writes;

I am very proud to lead such a great scheme, we are constantly looking at ways to improve and engage more members of the community. This year we added two new initiatives we held two very successful tournaments one for Mental Health attended by teams from as far away as Everton, Wales and Hull and another for those over 50s who enjoy Walking Football. We do not stand still and are starting our very own coaching academy next year for those boys and girls in current year 11 and looking for a career in coaching. This is a two year course and we still have a few places available

Being awarded Community Club of the Year is really the icing on the cake, it gets harder every year as many of the League Clubs now competing in the league have long established schemes so opposition is tough. We will continue to strive to be the best and deliver projects to those living in Woking and its surrounding area.
