Girls across Woking will be provided with increased opportunities to play football after a new nationwide participation programme was announced.

The programme will see 200 SSE Wildcats Girls’ Football Clubs opening throughout England this spring, each run in conjunction with the local County FA and their key partners. The move will provide girls aged from 5 to 7 with regular opportunities to play football and take part in organised sessions in a fun, engaging and safe environment over a minimum 16 week period.

The project is an integral part of The FA’s objective to double girls’ football participation by 2020 and has been established in a joint partnership between The FA and SSE, supporters of girls’ football participation and sponsor of the SSE Women’s FA Cup.

The Woking Wildcats Girls FC sessions
will take place as follows:

Start Date: Saturday 22nd April

Time: 9.00-10.00am

Venue: Brookwood Farm, Bagshot Road, Knaphill, Woking, GU21 2RN

Cost: £3 per session

Parents and carers who attend with the girls will also have the optional opportunity to take part in football-related fitness sessions at the same time as the girls.

Chris Sexton, Senior Development Coach at Woking FC, commented: “This is a fantastic opportunity for younger females to participate in football. We already have a good number of older girls participating in local football clubs and district sides. This fantastic initiative gives 5-7 year olds an opportunity to begin their footballing career much earlier than most currently do.

Surrey County FA CEO, said: “This is a great opportunity for more girls who haven’t played before to access specific fun training sessions that will ignite their passion for football, we hope that many of the girls who attend will then make the transition into local charter standard clubs.
