Cup win for Youth Team

10:51am, Thu 10th Dec 2009
Another four Academy matches were called off this week but one game did manage to go ahead.
Dennis North reports:

Football Conference Youth League Cup 2nd Round
9 December 2009
Woking 2 Watford 0

Scorers: Ola Sogbanmu, Matt Ellis.

This game had been postponed twice and with the next round beckoning it was important to get the fixture played. The game was somewhat more comfortable than the scoreline suggests as a strong Woking line up played (for some) their first game in many weeks.

An early goal from Ola Sogbanmu, followed by a deftly-guided back heel from Matt Ellis put Woking 2-0 up by half-time. The home side failed to capitalise on numerous other opportunities in the second half but resolute defending and goalkeeping kept a clean sheet and the Woking name in the hat for the next round.

MOTM: A number of contenders but the award is edged by Aaron Gough (pictured).

Squad: Pegler, Boateng, Lumley, Gough, Cousins, Cadete, Frith, Ellis, Groombridge, Palmer, Sogbanmu.

Subs used: Coke, Coussens, Topham.

Subs not used: A.Turner
