Robert Greenaway

11:51am, Thu 30th Jun 2022
Woking Football Club were saddened to hear recently of the death of Robert (Bob) John Greenaway, a loyal supporter from the mid 1950s.

Born in Woking and brought up in Old Woking, Bob was educated at Woking Grammar School and was a regular contributor to the football club and supporter’s club pages in the programme from the late 1950s to mid-1960s. Bob contributed to Woking’s ‘Bible’, Cardinal Red – The History of Woking FC, and also wrote more recent feature articles in the programme.

Bob worked in banking and other financial sectors and, following retirement, spent half of his time in Mauritius. Here he followed Woking whilst relaxing on the beach, and the rest of the time in Liss; returning from Mauritius he settled in Petersfield. Ill health in recent years curtailed Bob’s visits to Woking, but not his following of his beloved team. Bob followed the Cards devotedly on-line and in the press and regularly posted opinions and football memories on social media.

Bob was a lifelong Card, a true football historian and a really gentle, family man and our thoughts are with his family and friends.
